Home Department - Strong base of law and order

The Home Department was divided into two parts as “Law & Order and Transport” for administrative convenience and efficiency. Thereafter from 16th December, 1985 Transport Department was divided into two new divisions: (1) Transport and Prison, (2) State Excise. Addl. Chief Secy. (Home) deals with prevention & investigation of crime, maintenance of law and order, administration and control of police, Home Guard and Civil Defense and establishment of Home (Mantralaya) Department. Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) deals with mode transport i.e., Road Transport, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation in the Transport division. Addl. Chief Secretary (A & S) holds the charge of Prison Department. The charge of State Excise is entrusted to Principal Secretary (Excise). The subject “Foreign Citizen” has been entrusted to Home Department from 1st December, 1995.
